Aetrex FitAI™ Footwear Recommendations
The FitAI program is designed to help footwear retailers deliver highly personalized, scan-based shoe recommendations to their consumers—both in-store and online—by leveraging the proprietary SmartLast® database and Aetrex’s FitAI technology. The program helps retailers improve fit confidence, reduce returns, and boost conversion rates.

FitAI InStore - The Starter Program
The FitAI InStore program is available immediately once a retailer has set up the Albert Pro or Zoe Pro scanner software. First, a retailer sends their product feed (usually via Google Shopping) to Aetrex, which is then matched against our SmartLast® database of 3D-scanned footwear. If fewer than 75% of products match the database, Aetrex may scan additional shoes from the retailer’s inventory. Then, FitAI is activated in-store, displaying personalized fit ratings—ranging from Excellent to Poor—based on how a customer’s 3D foot scan compares to each shoe’s internal 3D shape. This initial phase uses a rules-based system for accuracy and clarity.

FitAI Online- After 5,000 Matching Data Points
As the FitAI InStore program gains traction, retailers can unlock new features that enhance the customer experience further. Once a retailer collects 5,000 scan to in-store purchase matching data points, FitAI Online can be activated. The software system can now begin using machine learning to refine its fit predictions, leveraging real-world buying behavior to move beyond rules-based matching and deliver even more accurate, data-driven recommendations. At this stage, shoppers who had previously completed a scan in store can identify themselves on the retailer’s website to receive personalized fit recommendations for available shoes.
